The Manager's Stance on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

"There have been such conversations," the London-born former Irish youth international said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I have a special job here at a special team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Everything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Reports indicate that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and announce what they were, but of course it's a really big football club."

McKenna agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his reported buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I'm unaware what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Town's coach forever. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy represented the Hoops on loan from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the former Wales striker is minded to complete the ongoing global tournament qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League performance, should they not finish as their group runners-up.

Given his current position, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the play-offs at the earliest.
