Which person says no to Benfica? - The Special One touches down for negotiations
Jose Mourinho announces he is on the verge of being named the Lisbon-based club manager after arriving in the Portuguese capital for talks with the Primeira Liga club.
Mourinho is poised to replace Bruno Lage, who was sacked following the midweek Champions League loss at home against Qarabag.
Mourinho has only been without a club for less than a month after being dismissed by Fenerbahce.
"Benfica formally asked me if I was interested. Which manager says no to such an opportunity? Certainly not I," he told reporters after arriving in Lisbon. "After I was presented with the opportunity to coach them, I didn't hesitate to say that I'm interested, that I'd want to."
He began his managerial career with the club in 2000 but took charge of only 10 games and departed after a dispute with the club chairman.
He then rose to prominence with Porto between 2002-2004, claiming six titles - among them the Champions League in the 2003-2004 season.
Since leaving his homeland in 2004, Mourinho has managed the Blues, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma and Fenerbahce.
He left the Turkish club on 29 August, two days after they were eliminated from the UCL play-offs by Benfica.
If Benfica appoint him, he would face Chelsea in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on 30 September.
Benfica also visit Newcastle United and welcome the Spanish giants later in the league phase of the tournament.
