Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

Jokic was hurt towards the end of the second quarter following an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Jones.

The other player came down on the footwear of the MVP, who immediately went down to the court clutching his leg.

The veteran player, that is leading the NBA this season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before sustaining the injury.

The player will have an MRI on the following day to evaluate the seriousness of the problem.

"Right away, Jokic knew something was wrong," stated Denver head coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who suffers an injury, it's tough to see, especially a player as important as him. More information will come tomorrow."

"We will continue as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I am focused about Jokic as a person and the frustration of going through a situation like that."
