Streisand shared a statement after the death of the Hollywood legend in the beloved movie The Way We Were. He died at the age of 89 in a place he deeply adored.
Through social media, Streisand reflected warmly on the moments they spent while making the acclaimed picture.
“Each day during filming of The Way We Were was exciting, intense and pure joy,” her message read. “We came from different worlds: he loved equestrian life; I couldn’t be near them! Nevertheless, we made an effort to learn more as people, much like the figures on screen. His presence was captivating, brilliant, focused, always interesting—and one of the finest actors ever. The last time I saw him, during a lunch visit, we talked about creativity and agreed to share our early artwork. He was one of a kind and I feel fortunate to have experienced the opportunity to share the screen with him.”

The film The Way We Were achieved both praise and popularity along with its memorable soundtrack also becoming a chart hit and being nominated for Academy Award recognition.
This moving homage adds to numerous across the entertainment world and past it in the wake of his loss. Another legendary performer, who collaborated with Redford in Out of Africa and Lions for Lambs, expressed, “A great spirit has left us. Rest in peace cherished companion.”
Another iconic co-star, who worked alongside him in multiple films such as their famous comedy, commented: “I was deeply affected upon learning when I read we had lost Bob. Tears won’t cease. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person through and through. He represented an America that must be preserved.”
