Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they can't be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in two scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th Premier League at home defeat of 2025.

But the primary talking point was the visitors' second goal when Vicario lost possession far outside his area.

He came out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.

But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.

A particular of those jeering episodes really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be real Tottenham supporters that do that. Alright jeering after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are with one another going forward."

Tete had handed the visitors a early advantage before Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second score was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He is a excellent team player, he is a real leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.

"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italy national team Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to take the feedback.

"That score was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for that," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."

He said receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on us to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on our own performance. We are missing in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next longest-range top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.

The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five seconds after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the box for a long time," Wilson said.

"I was surprised not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my interest lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the right connection and place it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

Although the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an all-round bad day for Tottenham to extend their home woes.

The match was their tenth at home loss of the year in the league, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to come prior to the end of the year.

Just a single of those wins have come since Frank replaced his predecessor in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.

"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from Vic.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have lost an additional game. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We just need to continue striving. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a single season (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He must take the stick," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a high profile job at a major team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
