Writer-director Simon Stone is celebrated for his high-energy interpretations of canonical plays. The current show presents a intense version of Ibsen’s masterpiece, combining loud modernity with accomplished acting from Alicia Vikander.

Lizzie Clachan’s scenography shifts elegantly from light-filled authenticity to shadowy abstraction, reflecting the story’s emotional arc. When water drenches the stage in the later half, the show powerfully represents the unleashing of hidden emotions.
Even if some minor characters approach overacting—like a young sculptor who jokes about his mortality—the primary impact of the performance stays strong. The result is a compelling, innovative, and utterly impressive piece of theatre.
