Palestinian-American Youth Liberated Following Nine Months in Israeli Detention

An American-Palestinian adolescent who spent 270 days in Israel's custody absent formal charges was released.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim was fifteen years old when he was arrested this past winter within the occupied West Bank, during a family visit on holiday from Florida accused of stone-throwing against settlement residents, which he previously denied.

The US state department said it welcomed the news of Mohammed's release.

Now sixteen years old, was taken to hospital upon gaining freedom, according to close relatives.

Family described him as visibly pale and thin, and is suffering from conditions acquired while detained.

Via family representatives, family spokesperson expressed the family's "overwhelming sense of relief".

Family member Zeyad Kadur described how relatives endured "living a horrific and endless nightmare" throughout the past nine months.

"Right now, we're concentrating on providing Mohammed with urgent medical care he needs after experiencing harsh conditions and brutal treatment over several months."

The state department announced ongoing to offer diplomatic assistance for the Ibrahim family.

{"The Trump Administration gives utmost importance to ensuring the safety of US citizens"," officials stated.

Several congressional representatives had signed a letter to US authorities and the administration, demanding more be done for his freedom.

Mr Ibrahim, parent of four children who runs an ice cream business based in Tampa, previously said his child admitted guilt to throwing stones because the soldiers beat him.

The father hadn't visited or spoken to Mohammed since February, receiving updates exclusively what had happened to him in detention through court documents.

Mohammed was held without charge in Ofer prison in the West Bank.

It is also home to grown detainees, some of whom have been convicted of serious terrorism offences and murder.

Many have never been charged and human rights groups, including UN bodies, say some have suffered abuse and torture.
