Liverpool Will Not Abandon Forward-Thinking Philosophy In the Face of Current Struggles, Insists Arne Slot
Liverpool's head coach has stated that the team leadership are aligned with his perspective regarding the recent downturn and he has no intention of discarding their attacking style in search of a solution. The head coach conceded that six losses in seven games was not good enough ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Growing Expectations Throughout Tough Spell
Liverpool's coach recognized the expectations were high before his altered lineup were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he emphasized that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the club's ownership or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.
"They say similar things," commented the Liverpool boss, whose team next week face the Spanish giants in the Champions League and travel to the Citizens in the Premier League.
Player Depth Continues Unquestioned
The coach is convinced his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are all fit and completely set for the programme we are facing". He noted that the transfer window acquisitions in footballers like Florian Wirtz and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in an excellent position for the immediate prospects and the long-term future".
Gelling Difficulties
When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he replied: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm offering alibis. I can identify five or six reasons why we are underperforming or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are inadequate reasons to have a run of form as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could come up with numerous reasons
- When you are Liverpool you should not suffer defeats
- In truth six losses from seven matches
Defensive Statistics
Only Burnley (21) have allowed more significant openings from open play this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The league leaders, the North London club, have faced two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no justification to sacrifice his attacking principles for a defensive approach after 10 games without a shutout.
"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to modify our philosophy entirely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he said.
Recent Examples
"Versus the Red Devils, how many chances did we concede? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a shot on target. In all the games we have played so far we haven't conceded a many opportunities. Definitely not. We do concede a somewhat more than last season but that stems from us being trailing by a goal so you become more adventurous. But in general I don't think that our problem is that we allow too many opportunities. Our problem is we fail to convert the opportunities we generate."
