The past two days have been nothing short of dramatic. On Monday, we marked the half-decade milestone of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a competition to determine the top exclusive title of this hardware cycle. We presented eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X games to face off against each other, culminating in a final showdown where the leading contender from each platform would battle it out. There have been some nail-biting finishes in the first two rounds, particularly yesterday’s razor-thin votes. At this point, it's time to crown the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games ahead of Thursday’s final battle.

The PS5 Side

For PlayStation 5, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected considering that it took home the top prize at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its victory over God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. But to get to the finals, it'll need to defeat the most valuable player of the PlayStation 5 era: the acclaimed developer. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the semi-finals, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another title from the same studio!) to land in the semi-finals. Will Spider-Man defeat a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he destined to become a chibi cameo in the next Astro Bot game?

The Xbox Series X Side

The Xbox Series X side has been more exciting. Emerging victorious from a more eclectic field of competitors is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the racing adventure title already, demonstrating that a more specialized genre game earns to be on the same pedestal as classic platformers and story-driven epics. Its final obstacle on the way to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a crowd favorite, beating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a much bigger game from an established IP that's closely tied to the Xbox brand? If anyone can pull that off, it's probably Indy.
