Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a major technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were halted due to an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers reported being stuck in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are managed.
