A Much-Awaited James Bond Game First Light Encounters a Postponement, Scheduled for Release in Late Spring 2026.
IO Interactive
The arrival of the long-awaited James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, will now arrive later until 27 May 2026.
Originally slated for a 27 March release, the title will now hit shelves approximately a couple of months after its initial date.
A Much-Needed Comeback for 007
This project marks the inaugural video game starring the iconic British spy following 2012's 007 Legends, concluding a lengthy hiatus for the character in the gaming world.
"Our project is fully playable from the first mission to the last," stated developer IO Interactive. "However, we are utilizing this additional period to add more refinement and make certain it satisfies the demanding benchmarks of our players."
Development Details and Story Components
The game is being crafted alongside Delphi Interactive, a studio also behind another upcoming title.
Patrick Gibson, recognized from Dexter: Original Sin, will portray a 26-year-old James Bond in what is described as a fresh take on the beginnings.
The narrative will follow Bond as he gets enlisted into MI6 and secures his legendary 00 status, offering a self-contained tale unconnected to the films or books.
Star-Studded Cast and Mechanics Reveals
Adding to the celebrity appeal, American musician Lenny Kravitz was announced as the project's main villain.
Released teaser footage have highlighted shared mechanics with IO Interactive's successful Hitman franchise, while also highlighting the expected gadgets and action-packed sequences inherent to Bond.
That said, a portion of the reaction on these trailers raised issues regarding visual performance, citing frame rate drops and the use of motion blur.
An Ambitious Project
IO Interactive has labeled 007 First Light its "most ambitious project to date."
"Our team is sure this prepares 007 First Light up for long-term success," the studio added. "We are grateful for the understanding and ongoing enthusiasm we've received."
